Austin Justice is an active digital archives and metadata professional committed to enhancing the discoverability of library and archival resources through ethical description and data analysis. He is currently an Assistant Editor for the Papers of Abraham Lincoln at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum as well as a remote, part-time cataloger for the Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project at Northeastern University. Austin previously served as a senior specialist in Metadata Services at Ohio University Libraries; Metadata Coordinator for the University of Southern Mississippi Libraries; and Digital Archivist and Metadata Lead for the Civil War & Reconstruction Governors of Mississippi. He also received his MLIS from USM.
Originally from Eastern Kentucky, Austin first cut his archival teeth at several heritage organizations in the South and Midwest. These include the Kentucky Historical Society, Appalshop Archive, the Spurlock Museum, and the Illinois History & Lincoln Collections at the University of Illinois. Holding a bachelor's degree in history from Illinois, Austin remains interested in the intersections of archives, technology, digital humanities, and historical scholarship.
